About the Provider
I am a first-generation Tanzanian and Ecuadorian woman raised in a multicultural, multilingual, Muslim home. My path to midwifery started at a young age, inspired by the strong maternal instincts of my female relatives who confidently birthed and breastfed their babies naturally. The birth stories of my mother, grandmothers and aunts taught me to trust in the wisdom of our birthing bodies. Three of my own natural, unmedicated homebirths later and 100s of families served, both in my home region and abroad, my midwifery practice thrives on giving families choices. At the heart of my practice is my trust in the birth process, in your body and in your choices throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. I am a trained medical provider who can help guide your decisions, keep you and your baby safe and ensure you are well-informed, but, ultimately, this path is yours and I honor that.
After becoming a DONA International-certified birth doula in 2011, I broadened my scope of practice and certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). After helping 100s of families birth and breastfeed their babies, I embarked on a 3-year journey to become a midwife at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. In 2019, I became a licensed, certified midwife in the state of New York and have been catching babies at home ever since. In addition to my clinical midwifery work, I also provide primary, gynecology, conception and lactation care, supporting people across their lifespan. I also work internationally in Tanzania (East Africa) supporting community-building projects, improving access to clean water and working on skills training for adolescent girls. I also lend my midwifery skills to support local organizations in improving women's health and neonatal care in rural, underdeveloped communities.
